Our 7th National Plastic Free Lunch Day is here!

November 17, 2025 – This week, we’re running our Seventh Annual National Plastic Free Lunch Day (PFLD). Across the US, thousands of schools are taking plastic-free actions in their school cafeterias. Help support the next generation of environmental advocates who are making hyper-local change all over the country!

Single-Use Plastic Reduction EVERY DAY!

The average number of single-use plastic items served in NYC Public School cafeterias on regular school days (not on PFLDs) is down from 5.7 in 2022 to just 1.8 in 2025.*

Our PFLD campaigns have transformed daily cafeteria service beyond one-day events. This reduction prevents over one million single-use plastic items from being served each school day across NYC Public Schools compared to three years ago.

* The data excludes Satellite Meal and Cafeteria Enhancement Experience sites (self-selection serving style).

Bar chart showing a decrease in average single-use plastic items per school lunch: 5.7 in 2022-2023, 3.2 in 2023-2024, and 1.8 in 2024-2025.

Plastic Free Lunch Day is making a big shift in everyday school lunch service after three years of student action.

Your support is crucial to seize this momentum now to continue to shift the largest school district in the country closer to
PLASTIC FREE!
